We support funding WSU’s OREI Project

Dear Preston,

I’ve heard about the OREI project you’re hoping to carry out, “Cultivar Selection, Soil Management, and Preservation of Organic Fruits and Vegetables for Improved Nutritional and Sensory Quality.” I’m writing to say how much PCC Natural Markets supports this proposed project and how much we hope you receive full funding.

The focus on providing consumers new tools and information to help them seek out exceptionally nutrient dense and tasty foods is very exciting and very much in keeping with what consumers are demanding. As a consumer-owned grocery retailer — the largest in the United States with 45,000 active member households — we’re acutely aware that a growing number of consumers are looking for better and more up-to-date information on the consequences of their food choices. More people are calling every day to ask how they can maximize their nutritional intake.

It sounds like this project would make a real difference for blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes and chilis — the four study crops. There is no finer partnership to conduct the research than The Organic Center and WSU, two organizations that we admire and support.

Please keep me up to date on this project’s progress. Once it gets underway, I hope we could meet to discuss your ideas and plans for the new Internet-based consumer information tools. We are here to support and cheer you on!
